“After the Rain” creates an almost visual experience. Inspired by the summer rains in the city of Ioannina and its impressive landscape, it’s a piece that celebrates being in the moment, times of quiet contemplation, and the beauty of nature. A bow on bass strings and broad brushstrokes of cymbals set the scene as wide swathes of deep, colored tones paint a rich picture. The images of mist rising after a soft, steady rain come easily and the recurring theme floats effortlessly, weaving in and out. The ending establishes a new groove that pulls the piece out of its reverie and joyfully forward, a reminder of the satisfying connection between earth and ephemeral.
